Begin your Athens walking tour at our meeting point where our guide will be waiting for you. Then, delve further into historical Athens.
First, we will make a brief stop in front of the Greek Parliament, where the Hellenic Presidential Guards are standing, the famous evzones. As we will go on further south and between the sights, you will get to know interesting details about Athens’ history. Each monument has a story that your guide will share along the way.
Pass by the Zappeion Hall and Temple of Zeus, where several, still-standing columns mark what was once a huge Greco-Roman temple.
Then we will make our second brief stop for photos at the Panathenaic Stadium, the venue for the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. Marvel at this whole-marble-made building — the only one in the world — and hear how it stands on the site of a 4th-century BC arena.
Wander along the charming alleys of Plaka and appreciate the elegant architecture and sites along pedestrian Dionysiou Areopagitou Street around the slopes of the sacred hill.
Next stop is an excellent reminder of the level of knowledge and education that existed some 2000 years ago. Hadrian’s Library, built in 132 AD, was a repository for rolls of papyrus – the equivalent of books then – and state archives.
Now it’s time to capture all of these fascinating ruins and learn their history from our guide. Once at the top of the sacred hill, we will be able to marvel at the full panorama of Athens. At the same time, you will learn about the excavations, and the surrounding monuments, such as Mars Hill and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus.
At the end of this beautiful walk, you will enjoy some of the best traditional greek meze.
